Society for Clay Pipe Research - SCPR

Visitors to the Dawnmist Studio website often ask me about the Society for Clay Pipe Research.
As a member I have included information about this here and up to date contact details for anyone interested in joining. I can highly recommend joining the Society even if you have just a passing interest in this subject and especially for researchers, archaeologists, pipe family historians etc. Although based in England the topics covered by the SCPR also overlap with Colonial sites, trading posts, wreck sites and digs all over the World and contain all the latest resources.

Details are correct as of Summer 2009

The Society for Clay Pipe Research was founded in 1984 and is based in England with many members worldwide. The idea of the Society is to bring together pipe collectors and researchers. Members include many reputable archaeologists, authors and researchers of clay pipes as well as pipe makers and collectors.
The Society produces a newsletter booklet twice a year with approx 40 pages. They also organise an annual 2 day conference, usually in the UK, when they look at the clay pipe industry and collectors bring in their pipes. These meetings include lectures, discussions and often a walking tour on the second day.

Members only are also invited to join an online forum where topics within this field can be discussed.

Gordon Pollock: Honorary President
David Higgins: Chairman
Peter Hammond: Membership Secretary/Treasurer
Libby Key: Secretary
