born of clay and fire,
Now placed with secrets untold
For those wise of the future to uncover

There is a tale that a special proper Cornish pasty was once smuggled during the middle of the night across the River Tamar so that an artist could see if it was true that they were better than Devon ones. The pastie was so large it filled an entire shoe box and was still warm from baking.

Although the feast was overwhelmingly tempting the artist decided it was indeed too pleasing to the eye, even to be eaten, and so the pasty was sacrificed in order to make just a few copies that would last forever... Pasties of Clay, Copper, Bronze, Platinum and pure Gold. Of course these were even then only poor imitations since no one in Devon, not even the artist, could make a proper Cornish pasty!

One of these was sent back to Cornwall as a gift for it was indeed true that Cornish pasties were the best and worth their weight in...
